For my final project in my multimedia journalism course, I created a short documentary film on a subject of my choice. I had the privilege of spending several weeks with the Arbutus Fire Department (Station 35) in Baltimore County, MD, where I followed the daily lives of three dedicated firefighters: Mr. Norman Simpkins Jr., Mr. John McDowell, and Mr. Sam Cooper
Through interviews and on-the-ground footage, I explored their motivations for joining the firehouse and their close collaboration with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The documentary also captures the high-stakes moments of their work, including late-night emergency calls and their commitment to serving the community

While working on the original short documentary, I had so much compelling footage that exceeded the length of the final edit. As a result, I decided to create a full-length version of the film, allowing me to showcase additional stories and insights. This extended version delves deeper into the experiences of the firefighters and includes valuable recommendations for those interested in volunteering with their local fire department
